Why do children who are curious at six arrive at sixteen having learned to be careful instead? Everything the Trust has built since 2004 is an attempt at an answer.
In 2004, in Mangaluru, a handful of students began meeting for physics and mathematics taught the way the subjects are actually practised — through experiment, argument and getting it wrong in company. It was not a school. It was closer to a workshop that happened to have students in it.
What became clear quickly was that the method worked, and that it was arriving too late. By sixteen, most students had already been trained out of asking questions. The interesting problem was not how to teach physics well at seventeen. It was how far back you would have to go to keep curiosity intact.
The answer turned out to be age three. That is why a coaching centre eventually built a Montessori kindergarten, and why a kindergarten eventually shared a Trust with a research centre.
