Broadening Horizons: Grades 4-6 at The Learning Centre

Welcome to the Middle School Years at The Learning Centre, where we broaden the educational journey for children aged 9 to 12. As students progress into Grades 4 through 6, our curriculum expands to include a third language, computing, global perspectives, nature studies, climate change awareness, and wellness programs. These years are crucial for developing critical thinking skills and a global mindset, preparing students for the complexities of the modern world.

Educational Philosophy

Our approach for these middle years builds on the Montessori principles of self-directed learning and holistic development, now enhanced by a curriculum designed to address global challenges and technological advancements:

  • Self-Directed and Inquiry-Based Learning: Continues from the elementary years, encouraging students to explore subjects at a deeper level and begin managing their learning paths.

  • Integrated Learning Experiences: Subjects are interwoven to demonstrate the interconnectedness of knowledge, with projects often spanning multiple disciplines.

Curriculum Overview

  • English and Third Language: Building on their foundational language skills, students enhance their proficiency in English and begin learning a third language, selected to broaden cultural understanding and communication skills.

  • Math and Science:Focused on real-world applications, our math and science curriculum encourages problem-solving and analytical thinking, using technology and laboratory experiments to explore concepts like physics, chemistry, and advanced mathematics.

  • Computing: From coding basics to digital literacy, our computing curriculum equips students with the skills necessary for navigating and succeeding in a digital world.

  • Global Perspectives: This program opens students’ eyes to global issues and diverse cultures, enhancing their understanding of world events through interactive projects and discussions.
