CHILD, CURIOSITY, CONNECTION: OUR APPROACH

At ELC, every child’s journey begins with a sense of wonder. From the moment they step in, we strive to create an experience that is not just about learning, but about life itself. We know that education is a journey where physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development come together to shape who a child becomes.

Guided by the Montessori philosophy, we treasure and nurture the natural curiosity each child brings. Every day, every moment in our environments is an opportunity for discovery and every question a gateway to deeper understanding. And through it all, we keep the child at the center of our work-guiding, nurturing, and learning alongside them, as they shape the future that is uniquely theirs.

At ELC, our greatest commitment is to every child’s unique journey. We strive to create an environment where each child feels seen, valued, and supported, ensuring they are not only prepared for academic success but also equipped with the kindness and compassion to engage with the world around them.

Mixed Age Groups

At ELC, we witness the power of peer learning firsthand as we continue to integrate mixed-age group environments into our classrooms. In these dynamic settings, children from different developmental stages learn and grow together. This approach fosters collaboration and mentorship, with younger children looking up to their older peers and older students taking pride in sharing their knowledge and guiding the younger ones. Through these interactions, children develop vital skills like empathy, communication, and teamwork, transforming the classroom into a vibrant, supportive community where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Montessori Materials

Montessori materials are powerful tools that open the door to discovery, offering children a hands-on approach to learning that bridges the concrete and abstract. Through repeated engagement with these carefully designed materials, children explore, experiment, and make connections that deepen their understanding. The tactile experience encourages them to repeat tasks, reinforcing concepts and gradually moving from concrete experiences to abstract thinking. This scientific progression makes sense to the child, as each material is designed to be self-correcting.

Montessori materials span across various areas of learning – from geography to geometry and practical life, each carefully designed to foster hands-on exploration and understanding.

Sensitive Periods

Between 6 and 12, children begin to explore the abstract world through their imagination, creating realistic images and ideas in their minds. Their growing curiosity leads them to explore practical life skills. They begin to grasp the past, present, and future, and their imagination helps them dive deeper into these concepts. As they develop an interest in different cultures, they form opinions and understand their place in the global community. Driven by a desire to understand how the world works, they experiment and ask questions.

When given the right experiences, they develop a scientific understanding of the world around them. This phase of intellectual growth sets the foundation for the logical, scientific thinkers of tomorrow. At ELC Primary, we are creating an environment and space designed to nurture the sensitivity of these transformative years, where curiosity and intellectual growth are celebrated.
