RECORD PERFORMANCE BY MANGALORE STUDENTS Six students of Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) Mangalore, selected for “Kishore Vaigyani” fellowship 2012-2013. Scholarship upto Rs.1,12,000 per annum.

Six Mangalore students undergoing IIT-JEE/AIEEE training at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Kuntikan, Mangalore, have been selected for fellowships in the prestigious KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA (KVPY), 2012-2013. KVPY is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India in order to encourage students of Basic Sciences to take up research careers in these fields. The selection procedure takes into account the academic performance of the student as well as their interest in pursuing research as a career. Selected students have the opportunity to get direct admission into prestigious institutions such as Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER’s) and other institutions that specialize in basic sciences. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented students who have an aptitude for research.

The selected students are Keerthan Shetty of Sharada P.U. College, Sunil Simha of Kendirya Vidyalaya Panambur, Joel Martis of St. Aloysius P.U. College, Sharachchandra N. B. of Lourde’s Central school, Sachin Krishna Raj K. of Canara P.U. College and Anusha H. L. of Kendriya Vidyalaya Panambur. They have obtained All India Ranks of 202, 411, 669, 746, 752 and 48 (Category rank) respectively. All of these students are pursuing their advanced education at CFAL.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE: After scrutiny of application forms and based on the performance in the 10th standard board examination,  around 10,000 students from India are called for a written test in the month of October/ November each year.  Based on their performance in this written examination, students with the highest scores are called for interview.  This year 1056 students were selected nationally as finalists out of which six students are from CFAL, Mangalore. Selected students are declared as “KISHORE VAIGYANI “and they are eligible for this National Level Fellowship.

 

Besides receiving a scholarship of Rs.64,000/-to Rs.1,12,000/- per annum as fellowship, these students are also entitled to several other benefits- They get direct admission to institutions that specialize in Basic Sciences, they can attend study camps organized by various scientific institutions and can attend lectures and workshops of renowned scientists.  Besides this, an I.D. card is provided to them which gives them access to various prestigious Laboratories, Libraries, scientific and research institutions throughout the country.

CFAL has a progressive record of Kishore Vaiyani Scholars year after year. In KVPY 2009-10, CFAL had 1 selection, in the year 2010-11, 2 students were selected and in 2011-12, 3 students had secured these fellowships. This year CFAL has a record performance of six selections.  CFAL has the highest selections at KVPY, NTSE IIT-JEE & AIEEE examinations in Mangalore.
